About us!
The Living Womb curates and prioritises working with creatives who are systemically affected by the heteronormative and patriarchal oppressive system we find ourselves living in. This means we support artists who are Global Majority, LGBTQIA+, working class, womxn and differently abled bodied people.
We especially want to work with creatives engaged in changing the societal conversation to a happier and healthier place to exist on Earth; such as challenging the ecological crisis, racism, sexism, discrimination of ability, sexuality, income, ect.
The Living Womb holds events, workshops and talks in a cosy living room-esk space which thrives on open communication and joyous exploration of all that there is to explore in life. We work with creatives to showcase and share practises of art, music, performance, poetry, film, voice and other daily, creative practises to provide spaces of ritual and connection to ourselves, to others and the Earth that holds us.
We invite you to fully express your self authentically, to show up as you are and to feel safe, acknowledged and held in your way of being.
We are interested in collaborating with like-minded expressive organisations and collectives in Bristol and around the UK.
Our Aims:
As a currently energetic, digital and nomadic space; with plans to become a permanently physical space in Bristol, we wish to ensure all of our collaborators are provided with Queer-inclusive facilitation training, to maintain a high standard of inclusivity and joyful connection within our space.
Furthermore, we wish to continue to prioritise working with and supporting creatives who are global majority, LGBTQIA+, working class, womxn and differently abled (physically or mentally).
We would love to have partnerships with like minded companies to include as many people as possible in changing the narrative which is running our world.
Our aim is for people who have worked with us/come into our space, to be left with empowerment, more self-assurance and the ability to create the things they want to see in this world having been supported by others who witness and value their strength.
I, Esmée Asia Turlej, the founder of The Living Womb believe that we each have a message or channel for bringing for wellbeing on Earth, for creating peace amongst us all.
I want to provide space to enable people to come together to bring these powers to life.
Finally, we aim to provoke conversations of sustainability around creativity. We wish to find new ways to create art which is non-toxic for our environment and are intrigued to see who we meet along the way for this to be realised.
